EANNA FLIES THE FLAG AS YOUNG STARS START TO SHINE

A quick round-up of last weekend's action starts with the news that Eanna Madden has been selected for the 100m and 4 x 100m at the European Team Championships in Vaasa, Finaland on the weekend of June 22-24.

The news comes on foot of Eanna running his second fastest time ever for 100m when he clocked 10.65 seconds in Regensburg in Germany on Sunday, just one hundredth of a second outside his pb and is a great return to form.

Gerard O'Donnell made his outdoor debut after an injury plagued few months, clocking 14.93 seconds for the 110m Hurdles at the Northern Ireland Championships at the Mary Peters Track in Belfast last Saturday, running into a 0.3 m/s headwind. A good start and lots more to come from GOD.

On Saturday, the younger generation were in action in Sligo in the Connacht U9, 10 & 11 Team competition and U12 & U13 Championships. Faith Lynott brought home a brilliant silver in the U12 Girls Shot and Darragh Gardiner followed up with a bronze in the U12 Boys Shot.

Gerard Murtagh claimed a bronze in the U13 Long Jump but was just outside the medals with fourth in the 80m. Dara Holmes was a heart-breaking fourth in the U12 Turbo Javelin while Mairead Lowe was fifth in the U12 Turbo Javelin.

In the relays, the U12 Boys team of Alan Beirne, Darragh Gardiner, Brian Keaney, Dara Holmes and Frank Cullen were our only medalists as they finished third in their race but we had a number of near misses as well.

ALL-IRELAND SCHOOLS TRACK & FIELD

Well done to all our athletes who performed so well at the Irish Schools Track & Field in Tullamore on Saturday, June 3, enduring conditions that went from floods and torrential rain to getting sunburn!

As usual, the standard was off the charts and we had some good performances with Oisin Kearney just outside his personal best in the Junior Boys 200m running 25.61 from lane one.

We had a trio in action in the 100m races with Sophie McCabe running 13.70 into 0.6 headwind to finish eighth in the Minor Girls race while Toyosi Fagbo, running in the middle of a torrential downpour, ran 13.16 to finish seventh in the Minor Boys event. In the Inter Girls, Alannah McGuinness overcame a recent knee injury to finish seventh in a time of 13.12.

Completing the day, our Minor Girls team of Sophie McCabe, Lauren Reynolds, Aoibhinn O'Dowd and Katelyn Gannon finished seventh in the relay in a time of 56.35.

Congrats also to Ellie O'Rourke, who trains with our distance gang, who was just outside her personal best in the Junior 1,500m in a time of 5.13.18.

Also well done to Eanna Madden who ran 21.58 from lane 2 in Salamanca.
