We had a long and eventful day at the Connacht Athletics U14 to Senior Championships in Claremorris on Saturday June 16, with a small band of athletes producing some very good performances.

Luke Charles & Aaron McDonagh teamed up for a bronze in the U11 60m with Luke's time the third fastest overall while Dara Holmes in the U13 Turbo Javelin.

Hugh McGovern and Caoimhin O’Sullivan finished third in the U10 60m sprint, Hugh's time the fourth fastest overall, before the pair then finished fourth in the 500m with Hugh recording the fastest overall time on the day in the event over two seconds clear of the next athlete.

Keelin Cronin ran an impressive 11.81 to finish fourth in the U13 60m while Faith Lynott was fourth in the Shot and the pair were part of the team who finished fourth in the relay.

TULLAMORE TITANS

Tullamore was the place to be last weekend as our athletes, young and young-at-heart, were in action at the famed midlands venue in the All-Ireland Schools and Leinster Seniors & Masters.

First up on Saturday was the Irish Life Health All-Ireland Schools Track & Field and our top finisher was Ellis Conway who ran a superb 59.50 to take fifth place in the Senior Girls 400m, a blistering fast race where Ellis was always in contention.

Alannah McGuinness, running for Mohill Community College, set a superb new personal best when she finished sixth in the Inter Girls 100m Final, clocking 12.64 to take over two tenths off her best and she was right in the mix in one of Alannah's best runs in a national final.

Lauren Reynolds was just outside her pb with 5.18.23 for 12th place in the Junior 1,500m, running a brave race off an incredibly fast race.

In the relays, the Junior Girls squad of Aine McGwynne, Alanna Murray, Aoibhinn O'Dowd and Sophie McCabe ran a new pb of 53.31 for seventh place, beating Connacht winners Presentation Athenry into the bargain. A squad that has made big progress this year.

The Senior Boys 4 x 400m relay squad of Oisin O'Dowd, Fiachra Henry, Oisin Kearney and Niall Sheerin ran four seconds faster than they had in the Connachts, clocking 3.39.28, for seventh place, all the lads running their faster ever splits in what was, for all of them, their first ever appearance at the All-Ireland Schools.

On Sunday, Michelle Lannon, Ann Wynne and Susanne O'Beirne were down in Tullamore for the Leinster Senior & Master Championships. Michelle ran under 11 minutes for the 3Km, a superb performance in the W40 race.

Ann Wynne led home the W45 800m with Susanne in second while Susanne added a second silver over 1,500m.

Well done everyone on some superb displays.
