ATHLETICS IRELAND JUVENILE CHAMPIONSHIPS WEEKEND 1

Another busy weekend for the club with our members in action in Tullamore and Brussels.

Eanna Madden and Gerard O'Donnell were both in action in Brussels at the Grand Prix with Gerard running a solid 14.39 for the 110m Hurdles into a headwind of 1.7m/s. Eanna's bid to get the qualifying time for the World Student Games just fell short but not without two very solid efforts over 200m, running 21.21 & 21.25. Both lads will now head to the Nationals confident of some good performances.

In Tullamore, Toyosi Fagbo was our top performer with an excellent 5th place in the U14 80m Final while Clodagh Sheerin reached her first National Final and smashed her pb by almost half a second as she ran 13.06 to finish 8th in the U17 Final. Faith Lynott was another to finish in the top eight in Ireland, her throw of 6.42m good enough for eighth in the U12 Shot.

Alannah McGuinness was just one place outside the top eight as she finished ninth in the U16 100m.

Special mention to Shauna McCabe who suffered a horrendous hard fall in the U18 100m Heats, smashing to the ground. But typical of her great attitude, she got back up and with a bit of encouragement from Fiachra O'Dowd, finished the race to the applause of officials, spectators and athletes.

ATHLETICS IRELAND JUVENILE CHAMPIONSHIPS TIMETABLE

The following is the schedule for our athletes for the Athletics Ireland Juvenile Track & Field Championships.

A reminder that we are training with a particular emphasis on those competing in the Nationals in Sligo on Tuesday, July 4, with a bus leaving from the Sports Complex at 5 pm sharp. Fare and track fee €5 per person.

CODE OF CONDUCT

CLUB REGULATIONS
Parents must check if there is sufficient adult supervision at each training session. If there are less than three adults present, training WILL NOT be held. All athletes must be on time for training & warm-up.
All athletes must be on time for training. Warm-ups are vital to help avoid injury
Athletes must participate in all designated activities at training, unless injured
The use of bad language, spitting, physical assault, verbal abuse or name calling will not be tolerated and may result in a warning and/or instant dismissal from the club.
Athletes must wear appropriate training gear (runners, track-suit, shorts, t-shirt).
Athletes are requested to respect their fellow athletes, officials, competitors and coaches
Equipment is for club use and no abuse of it will be tolerated

CARRICK-ON-SHANNON ATHLETIC CLUB is affiliated to Athletics Ireland and provides various sporting activities and opportunities for children and young people through participation in clubs, regional/provincial events and through to our national teams. Organised events involved the provision of athletic championships and games that involve in some instances require attendance at weekend events and overnight trips for clubs and their members. Our Child Safeguarding Statement has been developed in line with requirements under the Children First Act 2015, (the Children First: National Guidance, and Tusla’s Child Safeguarding: A Guide for Policy, Procedure and Practice). In addition to our Risk Assessment document described above, there are further procedures that support our intention to safeguard children while they are availing of our activities.
