2021 Carrick AC Membership

Carrick-on-Shannon Athletic Club is delighted to announce that it is now accepting membership for the 2021 season.

Unfortunately with the Covid-19 situation and the restrictions imposed by Sports Ireland and the Government, we have not been able to open our doors for our normal club activities at this time but we are starting the process of renewing existing club memberships and accepting new members.

This year we have moved our registration system to the Athletics Ireland Online Membership System which means that our members will be able to renew their memberships from the comfort of their own home and all without the need for our traditional membership night.

The link for the new Club membership portal can be accessed HERE

This new system will allow members access their membership details, update those details if need be, have access to their membership number and also enter national championships through the portal if they wish.

Our membership fees for the 2021 season are as follows:

Juvenile (U20 on December 31, 2002)         €28

Senior/Masters                                          €35

IMPORTANT - Carrick AC on Lockdown

As I'm sure you are all aware at this stage, the entire country is under a Level 5 Lockdown due to the worsening situation regarding Covid-19. First and foremost, we want everyone to be safe and healthy but unfortunately, the restrictions mean that we won't be returning for our new 2021 season under safe to do so.

That means there will be no organised club sessions for any of our members -juvenile, senior or master - until we get the go-ahead from Sport Ireland and Athletics Ireland.

Members are allowed to continue to train but all activity is restricted to individual training/personal exercise within 5 km of home while individuals may meet with one other household in outdoor settings when taking personal exercise.

In regard to Athletics Ireland insurance covers in place during Level 5 lockdown and club closure, Athletics Ireland have negotiated that all registered AI members will be covered by their AI personal accident insurance whilst undertaking club approved training in an individual capacity for injury resulting from an accident. Additionally, all AI registered members participating in online virtual coaching sessions by approved club coaches will also be covered by their AI personal accident insurance.

Although we are not open for training sessions yet, we will be opening up our new online club membership portal in the coming days so that all members can renew their membership for the 2021 season.

Stay safe and we will see you all soon.

CARRICK AC JUVENILES RETURN TO TRAINING

We are delighted to announce that Juvenile training for existing members, both primary and post-primary, will be returning in the coming weeks.

To help us organise our training sessions and the numbers that can be safely accommodated under Covid guidelines, we are asking any the parents of any existing member intending on returning to training to fill out the attached online link below.

Groups will be organised into the following groups: (Days, times & venues will be notified to parents as soon as we have final figures:
  • U11: Born 2010
  • U12: Born 2009
  • U13: Born 2008
  • Born 2007 and older
We are also asking that a parent of each member supply a mobile phone number so that we can organise group communications through WhatsApp. This will enable us to distribute a weekly link to a health questionnaire for each child attending each training session and a weekly attendance sheet.

This is an essential part of our plan to return to training in a safe environment so we would please ask that all parents please fill out the form with their phone number to enable WhatsApp group messaging as soon as possible.

Thanks very much and we look forward to seeing everyone in the coming weeks

CARRICK AC JUVENILES RETURN TO TRAINING

We in Carrick-on-Shannon Athletic Club are in the process of drawing up our plans for a return to training of our members in early to mid October but we will need your help.

Under current Government guidelines as they currently stand to prevent the transmission of Covid-19, training athletes indoors is simply not practical and as the Sports Complex will not be available due to its use for classrooms, our Primary School groups will be moving outdoors over the winter.

This will mean that our athletes will be divided into different groups based on the year of their birth so that we can comply with Government regulations on group sizes. These training sessions may take place at different times and different venues to what we are normally used to, but we are trying to accommodate our members, our coaches and comply with the Government regulations.

Unfortunately, with the logistics of trying to organise different sessions at various times and at different venues, we will be restricting our primary school group sessions to fully registered club members born in the years 2007, 2008, 2009 & 2010 and we CANNOT take in any new members before the end of the athletic year on December 31. The situation regarding new members will be reviewed in January.

All of these measures are subject to whatever Government restrictions/Athletics Ireland guidelines are in place at the time but we are in the process of trying to determine how many members want to attend training, what venues we can use and what help we can get to organise the sessions.

We would ask the parents of our primary school members to inform our coaches and officials if their child will be returning to outdoor training.

More importantly, we will need more help than ever before from parents at training - we will need people willing to help our experienced teams of coaches with practical coaching (courses will be arranged by the club) and we need volunteers to help with the administrative work around contact tracing and the collection of fees and Covid-19 Questionnaires.

Unless we get extra help to assist us, it is unlikely that we will be able to hold any Primary School group training this year due to the restrictions and workload involved for our volunteers.

For our Post Primary group, we make the same request so that we can finalise if we need to have separate training nights for the various activity groups: i.e. sprint or distance running.

Please contact us at connollyjohnb@gmail.com if you are available to help us or via the WhatsApp group for your child’s training group before Tuesday, September 22, at 5pm.

We look forward to hearing from you.
